Hi, I’m Jackie! I look forward to developing your technique, performance & love of water.
My Story
I joined the Burley Griffin Swim Club under the guidance of Scott Wilson and Bill Robertson as a 9 year old eager to learn the sport of swimming. Success followed due to embracing being a student of the sport, a lot of practice to keep improving and competition to apply my technical skills and mental fortitude.
I was a medalist every year at Country, State and National levels between the ages of 10 to 18. I was lucky enough to have both Scott and Bill’s belief and guidance to transition from being a successful swimming competitor into the coaching arena. Then, after my first degree, I won a coaching scholarship in the ACT and was able to study through the Australian Sports Commission a Graduate Diploma in Elite Sports Coaching working, with elite swimmers at the AIS.
An amazing experience which helped with increasing knowledge, learning from other sports and their coaches and then being able to share the experience with my swimmers and ultimately see their successes in the water.
Following my tertiary education, I dedicated the following 17 years (full time) to instilling technical, mental and life skills to ensure my students experienced success. I believe any person who embraces swimming will earn physical, mental and life success.
I have spent my swim coaching life in: Canberra at the Burley Griffin Swim Club, Sydney at The Hills Swim Club and Lane Cove Swim Club and then Cairns at TAS Swim Club. Spanning over more than 20 years. In my involvement with these clubs, I have developed the feeder swim schools, which involves writing lesson plans, developing and upskilling swim teachers and assessing all levels in the swim school to monitor when they are ready for the next challenge, ie. group.
To say I am passionate about swimming and coaching is an understatement and I hope I get the opportunity to work with you and share my love of the sport and assist you in achieving your swimming dreams.
My Approach
A Coach is more than a person who teaches you. A Coach accepts a partnership with you (and often your parents as well) to develop all aspects of your life to achieve success.
I will actively listen, observe and then develop strategies to suit “you” and your goals. My partnership with you will be based on respect, customisation and two-way communication. These are core pillars of my coaching style and are congruent to most people’s needs.
Our Journey starts with a partnership focussed on you and your goals. The plan and processes will evolve and change as you exceed your own expectations.
What starts as a goal to get fit, could evolve to participating in an ocean swim or a triathlon! Let’s see what’s possible.
